Innovation

Building larger ecosystems for innovation

Innovation is the key to success in today’s global markets. This is the reason why national and European authorities launch grant schemes specifically focused on innovation. Two types of improvement projects allow a company to strengthen its business: short-term projects that safeguard revenues and long-term innovation projects, which bring real competitive advantage. We help forge innovation consortia which generate more – and better – ideas.

Innovation is a hot topic. In the past, collaboration focused on small-scale research and development or technology ventures between large global brands and smaller partners. The new model of innovation includes the convergence of like-minded parties. Over the last decade, forward-looking organisations have been opening up their product development to ideas that originated in consortia of suppliers, independent inventors and academic institutes.

Structured innovation

Structured innovation involves developing a systematic approach (and IT tools) to support product and process technology innovation. At PNO we have specialised teams which not only arrange subsidies, but also help partners come together to implement a systematic approach towards innovation, generate better ideas for new products, and develop those ideas more quickly and cheaply. We also co-develop and promote software that helps companies implement innovation projects. In fact, we can help at all stages of the innovation process, from initial concept to dissemination of results.

Innovation stages

Profitability changes during the evolution of technical systems. It’s initially very low because of high R&D costs. While performance and efficiency improvements are being made, it grows, reaching a maximum when costs have been minimised. At this point, innovation becomes crucial, because it’s the only way to advance to a new technological level.

What PNO can do for you

We systematically support innovation in large as well as small and medium-sized enterprises. Innovation is extremely complex so clients are increasingly engaging external consultancies such as ours to help them gain sustainable competitive advantage. We know what grants are available (note that over three-quarters of the EU’s Framework programmes include innovation as a central criterion) and, as Europe’s largest provider of public funding solutions, we have the widest network to find the partners you need to make innovation a success.
