‘Classic’ investment support

The aim of this support measure is to promote and develop investment and employment in the Walloon Region by allocating grants & incentives to companies. Grants can be obtained for investments in new material and equipment, in land, in the construction or extension of buildings, and for buying licences (software, …).

Generally speaking, the whole of the Hainaut province, the town of Tubize in the Walloon Brabant region, and some towns in the provinces of Liège and Namur receive most grants. The minimum investment amounts and the excluded activity sectors (based on NACE codes) are important eligibility criteria for these subsidies.

Currently, there are two investment grant regimes in the Walloon region. A regional grant, and a European grant that is called ‘Convergence’ in the Hainaut province, and ‘Competitiveness Employment’ in certain towns of Liège and Namur.

The grant amounts are based on a basic subsidy (percentage), complemented with specific bonuses. The eligible investments are for plots of land and buildings, for equipment and new material, and for licences. In the European system, the bonuses mainly affect employment. On a regional level, this criterion is important, but others must also be taken into account.
