EFRD
The purpose of the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRD) is to eliminate the (regional) social-economic obstacles in the European Union.
The EFRD co-finances subsidies for development projects in acknowledged problem areas, that reinforce the EU objectives (convergence, regional competition & employment, and European Territorial Co-operation).
In order to receive EFRD funds, each member state has to submit a multi-year program to the European Commission. In Belgium, all 3 regions (Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels) submit such ‘Operational Programs’ (OP), resulting in different actions (and funding opportunities) per region. Each OP consists of a coherent set of projects, actions and measures, aimed at strengthening the regional social-economic development.
The EFRD offers funds to governments and/or private partners, as long as their (common) projects fit into the regional OP.
