The “European Industrial Doctorate” part of the FP7 PEOPLE programme is coming back!

22/06/2012

A successful pilot of European Industrial Doctorate (EID) - the new action within the Initial Training Networks/PEOPLE programme - took place in January 2012. This opportunity is going to present itself again at the end of the year. The programme will be officially published on the 13th of July 2012 with the indicative deadline for submission in November 2012.

The EID action is meant for providing a joint academic-industrial training programme allowing young researchers to enroll in a doctoral programme. The action aims at improvement of career perspectives for young researchers in both public and private sectors, extending the traditional academic research training setting and eliminating cultural and other barriers to mobility.

EU contribution:
  • Eligible expenses for researchers: monthly living & mobility allowances.
  • Eligible expenses for host organizations: contribution to the training expenses, management and overheads.
Two types of partners:
  • Participants (level 1):
    - full partners of a network
    - directly contribute to the implementation of the joint training programme
    - recruit and employ eligible researchers
    - provide research and transferable skills training, secondment opportunities
    - sign the grant agreement, receive funding
    - take complete responsibility for executing the proposed training programme

  •
  • Associated partners (level 2):
    - do not recruit any researchers
    - provide research and transferable skills training, secondment opportunities
    - a letter of commitment to demonstrate their real participation in the network
    - invoice level 1 for costs related to the activities in the training programme
Consortium:
  • Two participants at level 1: one academic institution and one private organization from two different Member States or Associated Countries.
  • Any additional level 2 associated partners from any country may be part of the consortium.
Researchers:
  • Early-stage researchers within the first 4 years of their research career and without a PhD.
  • Support for early-stage researchers will be for periods of 3 to 36 month.
  • They must be enrolled in a doctoral programme of the academic participant.
  • They should be employed by one or both level 1 participants.
  • In case the researcher is employed by only one level 1 participant, he/she must be seconded to the other for the share of the time foreseen.
  • They must share at least 50% of their time with the participant from the private sector.
  • Researchers can be of any nationality but may not have resided or carried out their main activity in the country of the recruiting organization for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the recruitment date.
Training project:
  • The duration of the project to be supported will normally be 4 years*.
  • Joint training needs to focus on scientific and technological knowledge through research under supervision on individual, personalized projects, complemented by substantial training modules addressing key transferable skills common to all fields.
  • Establishment of a Personal Career Plan for each researcher, including training goals and career needs as well as scientific objectives is mandatory.
  • Joint supervision of researchers by the academic and private sector partner(s) is mandatory.
  • The overall European Union contribution per project will be limited to the recruitment of maximum 180 researcher-months.

* Please note that the EU support will be for max. 3 years per researcher only!

AAL Europe asks for input funding round

12/05/2012

Bron: ZonMw

The 6th call for proposal from the European Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) has three potential issues: Prevention, Learning & Knowledge Sharing and AAL @ Work. AAL Europe asks for your input for the elaboration of these topics through an open consultation.

The main objective of AAL is to improve the quality of life of elderly people and enable them to live their lives independently and in their own homes, even as they increasingly suffer physical or mental problems. Secondly, the programme will support the European economic and industrial base. Solutions will be based on the needs and wishes of elderly people and their informal carers/families. They must be involved at all stages of the programme.
