The LIFE-programme for the period 2021-2027, with a total available budget of € 5.43 billion, is divided across different (yearly) call for proposals. The programme exists of four separate sub-programmes:
- Nature and Biodiversity
- Circular Economy and Quality of Life
- Climate Adaptation and Mitigation
- Clean Energy Transition (CET)
New LIFE call for proposals 2023
The LIFE call for proposals for 2023 were published on 18 April on the Funding & tender portal of the EU. The calls for the sub-programme ‘clean energy transition’ are expected to open on the 11th of May.
Target group of the LIFE-programme
The LIFE-programme is open to companies, knowledge institutes, governmental organisations and NGOs that work on innovations in the EU in the area of environmental care and climate. The bar is set high: small innovations or ‘standard’ environmental investments fall outside the scope of the LIFE-programme. Chances are high for innovative projects with a strong positive environmental impact (minimal on a European level) and that are replicable to other locations in Europe. Overall, projects often consist of multi-annual (3-5 years) innovation projects oriented around pilots, demonstrations and best practices.
A LIFE-application can be submitted by a single applicant, but can also be performed in collaboration with other European partners. The maximum grant amounts to 60% of the eligible costs (personnel, subcontracting, equipment, …), with an average budget for a typical LIFE-project varying between €2-5 million.
PNO has a lot of experience in developing successful projects, and can increase your success chances up to three times!
