Increasing Female Entrepreneurship Through Grant Funding Success – Webinar Update

PNO were pleased to successfully deliver our first female focused webinar on ‘Increasing female entrepreneurship through grant funding success,’ a lunchtime session which took place on Thursday 7th July 2022.

Overview of the workshop

Accessing start-up funding and investment is the number one barrier for female entrepreneurs. During the workshop we highlighted some of the benefits of grant funding. However, if you don’t ask you don’t get! The Rose report found that growth in women-led start-ups is outstripping men for the first time but despite this growth only 1 in 7 applicants for Innovate UK funding are female.

Applying for Innovation funding is a fantastic opportunity to accelerate your R&D and the process of developing a strong application can also help you better understand your own business drivers and ambitions.

In the workshop, we provided an introduction to the UK’s grant funding landscape which highlighted BEIS, Innovate UK, NIHR, DASA and Horizon Europe as sources of funding for UK-based businesses.

What grant funding can be used for

Next, we covered what grant funding can be used for i.e. R&D up to but not including commercialisation activities, typically TRLs 3-7, and not business-as-usual activities. We covered eligible costs and explained the need for match funding since grant funding only partially covers project costs.

Finally, we covered how to write a successful bid addressing some of the questions in a typical application, providing invaluable hints and tips for each to help participants decide if they are ‘grant ready’ plus identifying some common problems to avoid.

Following the webinar, a number of delegates had one-to-one sessions to discuss their project ideas with one of our team of grant funding experts.

Thank you to everyone who participated. We invite you to keep in touch with the team either by email or on LinkedIn.
